Objective

To make a difference in the American sport horse industry and the care and well being of all horses through education that creates unity and understanding in the horse and human relationship.

Summary of qualifications

§     Professional trainer for horse and rider in hunter, jumper, eventing, and dressage since 1976.

§     Breeder of sport horses and ponies since 1978.

§     Trained horses and riders through to FEI level in dressage.

§     Trained horses and riders through preliminary level eventing.

§     Member of warmblood associations and participated in the inspection process of breeding stock.

§     Professional handler of breeding stock at inspections, breed shows, and for bloodstock agents at Fasig/Tipton Thoroughbred sales.

§     Guest speaker at local horse clubs on various topics.

United States Dressage Federation Seminars for dressage training, instructor training through the FEI level, and Sport Horse breeding and evaluation.

Training with Linda Tellington-Jones and Sally Swift to enhance horse and rider training and development.

Trained with Maj. Anders Lindgren, Gerd Zuether, Volker Brommann to develop my own training and riding skills.

Leadership and transformational education through Landmark Education Corporation that included development of public speaking skills, service management training, empowering others to produce extraordinary results in their lives, and personal growth and development.

Professional experience

  

 

2/82 to 8/83: Director/Instructor of the riding program at Barrie School, Maryland, for 30 students

9/83 to 5/85: Instructor at Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA, for college students, non-college students, and classroom type courses

6/85 to 9/89: Instructor at Chrislar Farm, Rowley, MA, gave riding instruction for up to 70 students per week, developed the riding program for the Stable, and had 14 students competing at local and recognized competitions

6/86 to present              R S Sport Horse                                               

Owner, Trainer, Instructor, Manager

§     Owner and operator of a major sport horse training and boarding facility in Massachusetts.  The business included:

§      breeding sport horses; produced 16, several of which had excellent scores and placed high in breed shows, inspections, and in competitions as mature horses

§      riding instruction for the beginner to advanced or competitive rider; 70 to 100 students per week

§      producing three combined tests/dressage competitions per year; averaged 60 rides per competition, had up to 83 rides occasionally

§      providing a horsemanship program for the area’s Girl Scout Council’s summer camp; 7 weeks, 2 sessions per day, 4 days in the week, 12 girls scouts per session

§      (2000) development of an innovative, comprehensive sport horse education program offering training in the areas of dressage, jumping, eventing, equitation, hippology, endurance training, and horse management; 16 participants, 3 officers from the Boston Animal Welfare League (using this program to develop their skills in handling, care, and understanding in their dealings with horses)

§      Instructor Apprenticeship Program for individuals that desired to train to meet the qualifications for the Massachusetts Riding Instructor License; 16 participants completed apprenticeship and were licensed receiving scores above 95% on State exam. Personally held an advanced instructor license from 1987 to 2002.

Additional professional activities

I judge dressage and combined training competitions at the local level, have co-managed the New England Dressage Association’s Fall Sport Horse Breed Show for 4 years, and judge for the American Warmblood Registry to inspect and grade prospects for registration into the registry.
